Shopping on Cyber Monday

And then there is Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving and  is the biggest day of the year for online sales. The term “Cyber Monday” was created by marketing companies to get people to shop online. The term made its debut on November 28, 2005 in a Shop.org press release entitled “‘Cyber Monday Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year”.

For the first time, more people are expected to shop online on Cyber Monday than visit brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday, according to American Express. This year U.S. online sales are expected to hit $2 billion on “Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday has also caught on in other countries and used by online retailers in Canada, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Chile, Colombia, Ireland, Japan, and China.

It’s not just online stores like Amazon that are offering sales of their products. Even brick and mortar stores like Macy’s, Target, Walmart and sites like Groupon and Living Social are offering some of the season’s best online deals. And some stores like Toys R Us will have “Cyber Week” sales all week. If you want to start your Christmas shopping early and score some deals, here are links to some Cyber Monday sales. You can also check out your favorite stores and see if they have any Cyber Monday offers.

Happy Shopping!
